About Alina X Close
Alina believes that compassion & courage are the two weapons that could eradicate most problems that our world faces today. She vouches that development is inclusive and can only happen by embracing and empowering people from the most vulnerable factions of the society,and an efficient way to do it is through enabling them with a means to livelihood which is both sustainable and allows them to lead a life with dignity.
With this thought, 23 year old Alina founded Mitti Café in 2017 with an aim to create platforms for adults with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities to showcase their abundant potential for productive activity and create awareness for the cause of equal opportunities in employment .
Prior to Mitti she founded her first NGO (SSRI) in Mumbai at the age of 18, while in her 1st year of college. She started and lead a similar outreach organisation (PAHAL) whilst doing her Masters from Azim Premji University in Bangalore . She has motivated and engaged thousands of youth in activities pertaining to livelihood, education, health, environment protection, human rights and women’s empowerment. She has worked with the Government of Andhra Pradesh,in the Planning department and as a consultant to the Chief Secretary .
In the short span of 2 years, Alina and Mitti Café have won prestigious awards like the Times of India-She Unlimited Award,Rotary Exemplar Award, Microsoft Nipman Award, Tiecon Young female Entrepreneur of the Year award, Promising Social Enterprise Award from the Deputy CM of Delhi, Best CSR Initiative at Annual Restaurant Congress Award, Emerge India Social Entrepreneur of the Year, Samvida Social Enterprise Competition,Janhit Jagran Award in the field of poverty alleviation, Bangalore Trote Award for Innovative Social Entrepreneur, Ford Foundation& Social Venture Partner grants amongst others.
A strong advocate of participatory management, she is excited to traverse the journey of MITTI Cafe with her team of extraordinary persons with disability, while they learn to lead and she follows.
