Jincy Varghese is a software engineer working with an IT company in Mumbai. She takes a keen interest in making the world around her, a better place, especially for women and children. She started her very first campaign to increase the maternity leave to six months to facilitate six months of exclusive breastfeeding, while being 4 months pregnant herself. The fight which she started when her baby was a tiny little dot inside her womb, continued even after her baby was born. And in April 2017, the Maternity Bill was passed by the Government of India. Her petition was acknowledged by the then Women and Child Development Minister of India, Ms. Maneka Gandhi. Her grit and determination came to the notice of the Obama Foundation who then recognized her as an emerging young leader and invited her and a few more young role models like her, for a Town hall with Barack Obama in the December of 2017. Not to rest on past laurels, she continues her fight, this time for a mother's #RightToBreastfeed which is asking the government to make it mandatory to ask for parental consent before feeding artificial milk to babies. Her baby was fed artificial milk without her consent and so she doesn't want the same to happen to other mothers and babies. Her current campaign has been covered by quite a few national newsletters and online news portals. She has also been recognized as a Global Goodwill Ambassador by the Global Goodwill Ambassadors (GGA) Organization. She also has started facilitating workshops for adults on Child Sexual Abuse with the HEAL Foundation. Her dream is to create a world and a society where it's children are free and safe from sexual abuse.
