Pune: iWGA presents this year’s Awardee in Sports category, Chandro Tomar. An octogenarian at the age of 86, Chandro Tomar is a shooter from the village of Johri in the Baghpat district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Chandro is also known as "Shooter Dadi" and "Revolver Dadi". Chandro learnt to shoot at the advanced age of 65, and since then hasn’t looked back. Having won many championships and training hundreds of girls into shooting sports, she has attained national fame as an accomplished shooter & mentor for young girls.
She is regularly referred to as the oldest (woman) shooting player in the world. She was very instrumental in creating a sporting environment for women in her family, introducing her sister-in-law, daughters, granddaughters and village girls to the world of shooting.
Aptly awarded by the Government of India and the organizations across the world, she has helped in developing more than half a dozen national, international medalist shooters from her family and dozens in the village including neighboring areas.
We, at iWGA, appreciate her courage and marvel at her strength. We wish Chandro great health and loads of success for further endeavors.
