Pune: iWGA is delighted to present this year’s Special Mention - Jury Awardee, Kiran Sethi. Born in New Delhi, Kiran started her training in Judo under Mr. Shiv Kumar Kohli from a very early age and hasn’t looked back since. In 1987 she joined Delhi Police as a constable and is currently officiating as a sub-inspector.

During her tenure, she started providing self-defense training to the women in the force. Alongside Mr. Shiv Kumar Kohli she trained 1800 children in a self-defense camp held by Delhi Police in 1989. From that point on, she started providing regular self-defense training classes. People from every stratum of society have joined in on her efforts.

Another feather in her cap got added when the Delhi Police joined hands with Neighbourhood Watch Scheme to set up a camp for her to train women in self-defense. She also became the only female instructor to train her male counterparts and subjects at the Delhi Police Training Centre, New Police Line.

Kiran has also trained physically and mentally challenged kids to enable them to deal with their problems. Another major contribution made by Kiran Sethi is rehabilitating the drug abusers by training in yoga to motivate and support them to get back to normal life. She has also motivated a number of unemployed youngsters by attaching them to YUVA project by Delhi Police.

For her selfless service to women and children, Kiran was awarded DCW Achievement award by the Delhi Commission for Women. She has been honored by UT Administrator, Mr. V.P. Singh Badnore (Chandigarh) and M.P. Ms. Kirron Kher. She has also earned a mention in the Limca Book of Records for preparing a self-defense demonstration with more than 5000 girls in front of Honorable Home minister.

We, at iWGA, feel thrilled to honor such a devoted and selfless person.
