Wayne Gansen Carter, 76, of Lancaster, Passes Away Peacefully in Myrtle Beach Hospital

Lancaster, SC — Wayne Gansen Carter, a cherished member of the Lancaster community, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on September 19, 2024. He was surrounded by his family at a hospital in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Born on April 19, 1948, in Lancaster, Wayne Carter was known for his vibrant spirit, humor, and dedication to his family and community. He was a devoted member of Belin United Methodist Church, where his presence and lively personality will be deeply missed.

Wayne spent his career in the steel fabrication industry as a machinist and salesman. After retiring, he found joy in caring for lawns around Lake Wateree and indulged in his passion for music and outdoor activities. A lifelong music enthusiast, Wayne played the drums with the band The Vibrations, leaving behind a legacy of rhythm and joy for all who knew him. He was also an avid pickleball player and camper who cherished his time by the water.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (Nan) Fewell Carter, and his children: two sons, Wayne G. Carter Jr., who is married to Bart Montgomery, and Scott T. Carter, who is married to Betsy Bailey Carter. His daughter, Sterlyn Campbell, and his grandchildren, Caige Carter and his wife Emily, Talen Carter and his fiancée Ainsley, and Trey Campbell, also survive him. Wayne’s brother, Richard L. Carter, and his wife Kelsie, will carry on his memory.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Franklin Carter and Nell Steele Carter.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with the family receiving friends following the service. Wayne’s family and friends will gather to honor his life and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.

Wayne Gansen Carter’s legacy will be remembered fondly by those who were fortunate enough to share in his humor, love of life, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.
