Tucson, Arizona – Authorities have identified Ryan Romero Encinas, 20, as the primary suspect in the tragic shooting that took the life of 19-year-old Minhaj Jamshidi on Sunday night near a residence hall at the University of Arizona. The suspect remains at large as law enforcement continues a widespread manhunt.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 p.m., began as an argument between Encinas and Jamshidi, escalating into gunfire. Students and faculty have expressed their fear and grief following the deadly shooting, which disrupted the usually peaceful campus.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, but Jamshidi succumbed to his injuries. University officials placed the campus under lockdown and issued warnings urging students and staff to remain vigilant while authorities intensified their search for the armed and dangerous suspect.
According to reports, Encinas has been evading capture since the shooting. The University of Arizona Police Department, in collaboration with the FBI and U.S. Marshals, is executing search warrants across Tucson in hopes of locating the suspect. Despite efforts, Encinas remains at large, heightening the urgency of the situation.
