Martin County, Texas – Jack Lorin Parks, a 22-year-old firefighter from Paducah and a Texas Tech University student, tragically lost his life in a car accident on State Highway 349 in Martin County, Texas. The accident occurred following an agricultural recruiting trip in Odessa, as Parks and fellow student Shelby Carroll, 19, were returning to Lubbock. The Jeep Wrangler driven by Carroll collided with a semi-truck that had stopped to make a turn, resulting in the deaths of both young individuals.
Jack’s mother, Jori Parks, shared her grief on social media, expressing the overwhelming pain of losing her son. In a heartfelt Facebook post, she wrote, “I never imagined I would be undertaking this, and it is nearly unbearable to contemplate.” She added that despite the tragedy, she takes comfort in believing Jack was welcomed into the arms of his grandparents in the afterlife.
Parks had been a dedicated firefighter with the Paducah Fire Department since January 2022. His commitment to serving the community was recognized by Paducah Fire Chief Ron Gilbert, who highlighted the significant loss to both the department and the community. "Jack was a devoted member of the department and was always willing to help others," Gilbert said.
The loss of Jack Lorin Parks has deeply affected not only his family and friends but also the broader community. The Parks family is asking for prayers during this difficult time, particularly for Jack’s younger sibling, Jett.
Jack will be remembered for his selflessness, academic dedication, and the love he shared with those around him.
