Carbondale, Illinois – Selena Hubbard, a 22-year-old senior at Southern Illinois University, was tragically found unresponsive in her dorm room on September 18, 2024.
The sudden loss has left her family, friends, and university community in shock as they await autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Selena was studying human psychology, a field she embraced following the loss of a cousin to substance use disorder, hoping to make a positive impact on others facing similar struggles.
She was cherished for her kindness, close bond with her family, and her role as a second mother to her younger siblings.
In response to the unexpected tragedy, a GoFundMe fundraiser organized by her aunt, Melissa Ledesma, has been launched to help cover funeral and other related expenses.
So far, $995 has been raised toward a goal of $2,500, with significant contributions, including a $500 anonymous donation.
Melissa shared her heartbreak on social media, writing, “Today, September 18, my niece Selena Hubbard was found unresponsive… Any amount helps, and we do understand that now is a tough time for everybody.”
Friends and family have expressed their sorrow, with Kristin Dunkin sharing, “I’m still in such shock. Just a few days ago, we were talking and having a laugh. Me, Karlee, and our family will miss you so much.”
As the family makes service arrangements and continues to seek support, they are requesting prayers and strength during this difficult period.
