Michael Hyrum Cox, 44, Killed in Tragic Plane Crash Over Utah Lake, Along with Passenger

Utah Lake, Utah – In a heartbreaking accident on Friday morning, September 27, 2024, Michael Hyrum Cox, 44, of St. George, Utah, tragically lost his life when the small plane he was piloting crashed into Utah Lake.

The accident also claimed the life of his passenger, Mark Andrew Johnson, 46, of Washington, Utah.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m., about 0.5 miles northwest of Provo Airport.

The single-engine plane had been cleared to land before it went down, according to authorities.

Rescue crews retrieved the wreckage from approximately eight feet of water, and both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials stated that significant damage to the aircraft suggested that survival was not possible.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Condolences have been shared across social media platforms.

Susan Francis expressed her grief, writing, “How tragic… prayers for the family,” while Sandra Lamb described the event as “Absolutely heartbreaking!!”

The community continues to mourn the loss of two lives in this devastating tragedy.
