Torquay, United Kingdom – Meryvn Gwinnell, a respected former Art Master at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the age of 89.
The news of his passing has deeply saddened his family, friends, and former students, many of whom fondly remember his contributions to the school and its artistic community.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 12:30 pm, to be held at St Bartholomew’s Church in Coffinswell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rowcroft Hospice during the retiring collection.
Richard Harvey, a former colleague, shared his memories on Facebook, saying, “Such happy memories of working with Mervyn on many of our school musical productions.
His sets were stunning, and he was a superb Bill Sykes in ‘Oliver’.”
Paul Major, another former student, added, “Sorry to hear that. Merv was a great art teacher, and as Richard Harvey has mentioned, he did some great artwork for Oliver!”
The outpouring of condolences from friends and colleagues reflects the lasting impact Meryvn Gwinnell had on those around him.
He will be dearly missed by the community that cherished his talents and kindness.
