John “Waki” Wycough, a cherished artist and mentor, tragically passed away recently, leaving a profound void in the hearts of his friends and the art community.
His death was announced by close friends on social media, where they reflected on the countless memories shared with him, both in their creative endeavors and personal lives.
Brian Shearer, a long-time studio mate, expressed his grief, recalling the years they spent side by side, working in their downtown studio.
“So many stories and ongoing pranks… and getting on each other’s nerves. But always friends at the end of the day,” Shearer shared.
Wycough was not only a talented artist but also a mentor to many, having worked on projects like inking for Transformers.
His friend recalled with humor the time he mischievously placed hard candy in Wycough’s giant bowl of Skittles, only for it to get stuck in his gum where he had a missing tooth.
The memory highlights the playful bond that defined their friendship.
Matt Wendt, another friend from the art world, commented on social media, “Dang… he was such a great dude. This is heartbreaking.”
As the community mourns the loss of John Waki Wycough, his legacy will live on through the art he created and the lives he touched.
He will be remembered not only for his creative talents but for the kindness, humor, and mentorship he offered to so many.
