Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina – Jason Ray Campbell, age 43, from Southern Pines, North Carolina, was tragically killed in a plane crash on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The crash occurred near the First Flight Airport, located on the Outer Banks, and claimed the lives of five individuals, including Campbell.
The single-engine Cirrus SR-22 crashed into a wooded area near the Wright Brothers National Memorial, with all passengers on board losing their lives.
Among the other victims were Kate McAllister Neely, age 39, also from Southern Pines; Shashwat Ajit Adhikari, 31, from Silver Spring, Maryland; Matthew Arthur Fassnacht, 44, from Marietta, Georgia; and an unnamed 6-year-old child.
Witnesses reported that the aircraft was attempting to land when it caught fire, leading to the tragic accident.
Emergency services, including the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, responded quickly, managing to extinguish the fire.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Funeral arrangements for Jason Campbell and the other victims will be announced by their families in the coming days.
