James “Jim” Charles Parmeter, Longtime Proctor Resident and Community Leader, Passes Away at 83

Proctor, Minnesota – James “Jim” Charles Parmeter, a beloved figure in the Proctor community, passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 83.

Jim was born on October 2, 1940, in Moose Lake, Minnesota, and spent his entire life in Proctor.

He was a dedicated educator, community leader, and family man.

Jim graduated from Proctor High School in 1958, went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education, and taught at Proctor Public Schools for many years before retiring in 2000.

Many Proctor residents fondly remember him as a 6th-grade math teacher and a tireless civic servant.

He served on the Proctor City Council, was the past chief of the Proctor Volunteer Fire Department, and was deeply involved in the 148th MN Air National Guard, where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

In 1997, Jim was nationally recognized as the First Air Force 1st Sergeant of the Year.

He also contributed to many local organizations, including the Greater Proctor Area Scholarship Committee, where he served as Chairman of the Board.

James Parmeter is survived by his six children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to both his family and community.

His son, Josh Parmeter, expressed his pride on social media, saying, “An amazing man! So proud to call him dad!!”

A gathering in Jim’s honor will be held at Proctor Moose on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Private burial will take place at Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Duluth.
