Greenville Resident Jason Michael Haynie Tragically Passes Away Following Assault Outside City Tavern

Greenville, South Carolina – Jason Michael Haynie, a 41-year-old resident of Greenville, died on September 19, 2024, after suffering severe injuries from an assault outside City Tavern. The incident, which occurred on the early morning of September 18, left Haynie unconscious on the sidewalk, prompting immediate police and medical response.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Haynie succumbed to blunt force trauma to the head, which was determined to be the cause of death in a homicide investigation. Witnesses reported that Haynie fell and struck his head during the altercation. Surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

William Brandon Sanders has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the incident and was apprehended by a United States Marshals Task Force.

Haynie’s death has elicited a wave of condolences on social media. Jacob M Chandler raised questions about the nature of the altercation, asking, “How do we know that this wasn’t self-defense and or mutual combat?” Jay Lo added, “That’s why it’s just better to walk away sometimes. Prayers for the family.” Many others, including Lauri Ferguson and Kerri Whitaker, shared their thoughts, stating, “Prayers going up now for all that knew and loved him” and “Prayers for the family,” respectively.
