Middlebury, Vermont – Derek Bartlett, a respected math teacher and devoted hockey advocate at Middlebury Union High School, tragically passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The sudden loss was due to an apparent heart attack, leaving the school and local community in mourning.
Bartlett was celebrated for his dedication to education and his impactful role as a coach, touching the lives of many students through his commitment to both academics and athletics.
Middlebury Union High School expressed their grief in a statement, saying, “Derek was a gifted educator, a committed coach, and a beloved friend and colleague in our school community. Our hearts are with his family.”
In response to the tragedy, the school has mobilized support for both staff and students, with counselors and therapy dogs available to provide emotional assistance.
The Bartlett family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, and the community has been encouraged to share their condolences by bringing cards to the school office for delivery to the family.
