Lao Cai, Vietnam – Ai Ya, a cherished resident of the Sapa mountain community, tragically passed away following the devastation caused by Typhoon Yagi on September 7, 2024.
The typhoon, which wreaked havoc across Vietnam, led to widespread flooding and deadly landslides, especially in Lao Cai province, where 46 fatalities have been reported, with many still missing.
Among those lost to the natural disaster was Ai Ya, who was part of a family well-known in the local community for their kindness and hospitality.
Ai Ya’s passing has left her loved ones and friends in deep mourning, especially after her family generously hosted visitors earlier this year, offering them a glimpse into the beauty and warmth of Sapa’s local culture.
The massive landslides caused by flash floods buried 26 people, resulting in six confirmed fatalities, including Ai Ya, while hundreds of homes were destroyed in the region.
Condolences have poured in, with many expressing heartbreak over the loss of Ai Ya and the overwhelming destruction left by the storm.
